Continuing from #AugmentedReality and the #Architectmap – The Use of Augmented Reality in the Construction Industry – Part1 and Using Augmented Reality in the Construction Industry – Part 2 about the use of Augmented Reality I have been investigating ways of using Augmented Reality for real architectural projects using mobile technology.
I recently came across an update to the Solidworks E-drawings Ipad App which now includes Augmented Reality and so after a bit of experimenting and some technical support via twitter from the programmers https://twitter.com/RickWChin and https://twitter.com/vajrang I produced the following piece of AR using the provided marker placed on a site plan. This places a rendered 3D model of the house on the site in its correct location.

eDrawings now includes Augmented Reality (AR). This allows you to view your 3D models in 1:1 scale into the real world. By simply activating the device’s camera, you can bring your virtual 3D designs in a real context and see them in situ, sitting on your desk or on your conference room table or even in the palm of your hand, through your iPad, Pad mini, iPhone or iPod Touch’s screen. Move around the room and see your design from any perspective.
